Careers

Career opportunities for Physiology graduates are diverse.

Jobs can be found in research (universities, hospitals, CSIRO), public health (hospitals, laboratories, foundations), education (schools, universities and colleges of advanced education) and industry (pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies).

Higher level research and teaching positions in universities require a PhD which can be taken after completing an Honours year. Holders of a PhD are qualified to have independent careers as scientists with opportunities for travel and employment in research and teaching institutions overseas as well as in Australia.

The Human Genome project is leading to a growing demand for physiology graduates who have the requisite skills and knowledge to investigate the action of gene products in intact cells and body systems.

A degree in Physiology can also serve as a useful springboard for entry into a wide range of medical and paramedical courses such as medicine, dentistry, audiology, pharmacy, physiotherapy, chiropractic etc.  For examples see Case Studies
